Electrical and Computer Engineering

Louisiana State University (LSU) invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). The chair is expected to lead the growth of the department and build on its existing strengths; be committed to excellence in research and education; be an effective advocate for the department within the university and outside; demonstrate excellent leadership; and attract significant additional resources to the department.

The ECE department is the main focus for research and graduate education in electrical and computer engineering in Louisiana. It offers two ABET-accredited undergraduate programs in electrical engineering and computer engineering, both leading to B.S. degrees, and graduate programs leading to M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. The department has 26 faculty members in five areas: computer engineering, electronics, communications and signal processing, control systems, and electric power systems. The undergraduate enrollment is over 500, and the graduate student population is about 180 with more than 60 students in the PhD program. The department has several research laboratories including the Electronic Material and Device Laboratory and the Communication and Signal Processing Laboratory. The ECE faculty members interact with other research centers at LSU such as the Center for Advanced Microstructures & Devices that hosts synchrotron and microfabrication facilities, and the Center for Computation and Technology that hosts a 1,024-processor Xeon cluster as well as a 256-processor Xeon cluster. LSU is part of the 40-Gbps Louisiana Optical Network Initiative (LONI) funded by a $40M commitment from the state, and is connected to the National Lambda Rail. Required Qualifications: An earned doctorate in electrical or computer engineering or a related field; a record of excellence in teaching and scholarly productivity including significant funded research; excellent leadership and communication skills; and merit appointment at the rank of Full Professor with tenure.
