CDI Engineering is considering to employ an EE student or two on a part time basis at the Baton Rouge Office in the Electrical and Instrument Department. The main duties would be to apply sound engineering principles to assist with fundamental engineering such as gathering data & records, updating list, preparing specifications, simple calculations, reading engineering drawings, developing basic sketches, etc with direction from a lead engineer.
The candidate must have ability to read/comprehend instructions and write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations is a plus. Must possess knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software. Ability to use AUTOCAD is a plus.
They will be located in the Baton Rouge Office however they may periodically be required to travel to client job-sites (usually local less than day trip), usually heavy industrial (refinery/chemical) production facilities and will be required to pass background, drug test and safety training. They will also need to be able meet physical demands to perform functions of job which may involve some climbing.

The 2011 season of the Knovel University Challenge started breaking records almost instantly. After the first month, 3 schools had already qualified for the contest-within-the-contest, a reward for schools with outstanding participation of 100 individual student entries or more, guaranteeing an iPod Nano prize. As of this week, there are more than 5200 total entries from over 400 universities worldwide. Students are playing easy, medium and hard difficulty levels to test their knowledge! WASHINGTON (11 October 2011) — IEEE-USA is seeking applicants for Engineers Week’s new program, the “New Faces of Engineering: College Edition.” The contest is open to IEEE student members in all 10 IEEE regions.
“College Edition” is for third-, fourth- and fifth-year students enrolled in a bachelor of science engineering program at an ABET-accredited college or equivalent international institution, and have a minimum grade-point average of 3.0. The initiative is designed to recognize students whose academic success, contributions and experiences in engineering have them poised for future success.
The application is available on Facebook at www.facebook.com/CollegeEdition. Winners will be announced Dec. 5 and featured on the page, and their hometown and college newspapers will be notified.
Nominations opened in September and are due 21 October 2011.
“College Edition” also provides a forum for engineering students to communicate with the National Engineers Week Foundation throughout the year and to learn about academic and professional development opportunities, events, licensure exams, internships, jobs, competitions and more.

IEEE has partnered up with NI to make their software available to students at a highly discounted price. In addition, NI has developed a structure to allow students to become experienced in its use of LabView. One such way is to become an NI Student Ambassador.
