ECE Assistantships

The division attempts to provide financial support to all qualified doctoral students and to outstanding M.S. applicants. Teaching assistantships are offered to selected new applicants, particularly in the Fall. Spring assistantships are usually awarded to continuing students. These are very competitive awards which are decided based on the needs of the division and the academic credentials of the applicants.

Research assistantships are offered in both the Fall and Spring semesters. They are selected individually by the respective principal investigators (faculty member) and their stipend originates in research contracts. Interested students should contact the faculty in their area of interest.

If you are a current student seeking an assistantship please see the general announcement listed below.

You are also urged to visit the Graduate School pages under the Financial assistance tab at http://gradlsu.gs.lsu.edu

Clayton Ph.D. Assistantship Supplement Award

This award was established through an endowment by 1959 LSU graduates Donald W. and Gloria Pichon Clayton to support the College of Engineering in its quest for excellence. Donald W. Clayton is an alumnus of the Craft and Hawkins Department of Petroleum Engineering, and a 1993 inductee into the College of Engineering Hall of Distinction. Supplements to graduate assistantships may be funded through the endowed account. The stipends may vary from $10,000 to $20,000 a year, depending on the student's year in the degree program and the funds available. The recipient should be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident enrolled or coming into an engineering Ph.D. program and desirous of entering the teaching profession.

To qualify for the Assistantship, the student must also receive, in addition, a minimum of $15,000/year in graduate assistantship from his/her engineering department or other source such as research grants/contracts, other assistantships, etc. The total award will thus be $25,000, $30,000 and $35,000 per year per student for the three-year program of study. A letter of support must be included in the application from the student's department/major professor obligating the $15,000/year support funds. NASA Graduate Student Researchers Program

The NASA Graduate Student Researchers Program (GSRP) is an Agency-wide fellowship program (also called GSRP Training Grants in what follows) for graduate study leading to masters or doctoral degrees in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics related to NASA research and development.

In 2010 NASA expanded GSRP to include students that are interested in becoming teachers or education administrators.

This twelve month award requires a research experience at the NASA center extending the GSRP Fellowship.

The goal of NASA's GSRP is to cultivate additional research ties to the academic community, to help meet the continuing needs of the Nation's aeronautics and space workforce requirements by increasing the number of highly trained scientists and engineers in aeronautics and space-related disciplines, and to meet the Nation's need to increase the number of highly trained teachers.

Underrepresented groups in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields are encouraged to apply.
