A polymer nanocomposite pattern composed of carbon nanotubes and an elastomer (PDMS) matrix is used as a sensing element for strain and pressure sensing. Polymer nanocomposite has mechanically flexible and electrical conductive characteristics. When a nanocomposite pattern is under a tensile or compressive strain due to an applied force/pressure, the geometry and spacing of carbon nanotubes within the polymer matrix vary accordingly, which leads a change in its electrical resistance. The concept has been used to develop highly flexible strain/pressure sensing devices for various applications. A patent was issued on the core technology (US 9,099,224).
