The division's Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org. ABET has found a Show Cause accreditation action on the Computer Engineering program related to the degree name, which is currently Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering while the transcript notes that the major is Computer Engineering. To align the degree name and the program name, the division is changing the degree name to Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. This name change has been approved, and December 2017 will be the first time graduates will receive a degree with the new name. The name discrepancy was the sole reason for the Show Cause action and we expect that the Show Cause action will be dropped after the name change is approved.
Accreditation is based not just on what we teach, but how we decide on our educational objectives and outcomes, the way we evaluate how well they are being met, and how we use those evaluations to tune our program. This feedback loop helps us continuously improve our program efficiently and with relevance.
Using ABET criteria and input from students, alumni, and employers, the division has developed educational objectives and outcomes for each program. In ABET terminology objectives are broad statements that describe the career and professional accomplishments that the program is preparing graduates to achieve and outcomes describe what students are expected to know and be able to do by the time of graduation.
Students, alumni, those from industry, and others with an interest in the division are invited to read the objectives and outcomes and send comments to Jerry Trahan at email@example.com.
